In January 2026, Italy will become the epicenter of Space: 1999 fandom as fans from around the world gather for SpaceCon 8, a milestone event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the beloved science fiction series. The celebration will take place at RMH Modena Des Arts, marking exactly half a century since Space: 1999 first aired on Italian television on January 31, 1976.
Filmmaker Jeffrey Morris will attend the convention in person to present his acclaimed documentary The Eagle Obsession with two special screenings of the film on January 31 and February 1.

For fans in Italy, SpaceCon 8 holds particular significance. As organizers note, the date itself carries powerful nostalgia: on that same Saturday fifty years ago, Italian viewers tuned in for their first glimpse of Moonbase Alpha and its crew. Now in 2026, on another Saturday, they’ll relive that moment together.
We couldn’t miss the opportunity of a lifetime, and we decided to relive that EXACT moment, to go back in time half a century and celebrate the most incredible of anniversaries as it deserves… ABSOLUTELY can’t miss!!! It’s a moment that will never be repeated in a fan’s life, and I can’t even imagine not spending it all together!
