MICHAEL OKUDA INTERVIEW

Jeffrey traveled to Burbank, California to interview graphic designer Michael Okuda. Michael’s lengthy career has included work for NASA as well as Star Trek (Where he is known for creating the user interface style now known as “okudagrams”) and “For All Mankind” on Apple TV+. They met at the legendary Hollywood prop and costume firm, Global Effects Inc.

Inside Global Effects, Michael showed Jeffrey sets and spacesuits from “For All Mankind”. One of the things he mentioned loving about this TV show is that it depicts an alternate reality where the Space Race never ended. Michael spoke passionately about feeling that the cancellation of the NASA Apollo program has had a lasting negative impact on science, education, and our society.
