The Space Faring Civilisation (SFC) Film Festival is an annual event held in Canberra, Australia during National Science Week and is dedicated to celebrating science, space exploration, and positive storytelling while bringing indie space-themed short films to independent theatres worldwide. This year, they are proud to feature the trailer for The Eagle Obsession!
Festival Founder and Director Masoud Varjavandi sees the film as a great instance of what he calls “positive space cinema.”
“The Eagle Obsession is a perfect example of how the right mix of storytelling, artistic expression, and science can ignite a global sense of wonder and purpose,” Varjavandi said. “I’m passionate about celebrating stories that inspire hope, champion unity, and explore the cosmos with curiosity and compassion.”
Varjavandi’s inspiration for the festival traces back to his childhood in the 1980s, growing up with shows like Star Trek, Doctor Who,and Space: 1999 – all stories that portrayed space with a bright optimism for the future.
“Seeing Jeffrey’s journey in creating The Eagle Obsession, and his deep appreciation for a show that continues to inspire generations, is exactly the kind of passion we aim to nurture. It’s not just nostalgia – it’s a call to action for filmmakers and audiences alike to imagine and help build a better future,” Varjavandi said. “I’m proud to help share and celebrate this film, and I hope it encourages more creatives to tell the kinds of stories that move us to dream bigger and reach higher – together.”
